About Respect Sacramento
Respect Sacramento works to create safe schools for all sexual minority people in Sacramento
area schools. Our mission is to create change at the grassroots level, with one of our primary
goals being the ability to respond to local concerns with the sort of flexibility and creativity that
may not coincide with the directives of a larger national body. While our overall purpose and
intent might be in line with the mission of other organizations, Respect Sacramento will
concentrate on delivering to the Sacramento area school community programs and services
that respond to the problems and issues unique to California and the Capitol region. We look
forward to collaborating with other groups in California that share our grassroots focus.

The board members of the former Greater Sacramento chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and
Straight Education Network (GLSEN) formed Respect Sacramento not out of any disagreement
with GLSEN or any other group, but simply out of our desire to work locally to achieve the goal of
safe schools for all students. We look forward to working with other groups -- local, regional,
and national -- to advance the rights and safety of sexual minority persons throughout the
education system.
